We’ve been on Vonage for a while with no real problems. The only real challenge is how stable your internet access is. Because if it’s flakey, your phone is flakey. It’s not really a problem if you have a cell.
Otherwise, it’s great… you can get your voicemail in your email and everything.
We have it, it’s pretty good. You can’t beat the price. It is really easy to setup, and you get to keep your number blah blah blah. The only problem is if the net goes down or the power goes out you have no phone. Which makes calling 911 tricky – and calling comcast to tell them your net is down even harder. As long as you have cell service at your house you are set.
The only noticeable thing is it takes a couple of extra seconds to connect when you pick up – so you find yourself going “hello hello”.
The best feature is being able to route your voicemail to your email box.

I am a nanny for a family who runs a business from their home. They have vonage and calls get dropped ALL THE TIME! It is worse when they are uplaoding something on the internet. They also have two lines, and calls are sometime dropped when someone is using the other line.
So, from my experience, I would not reccommend it if you are doing major stuff on the internet.

I don’t have Vonage but I am using VOIP from my Time Warner Cable company. I have had no issues. I agree that it will depend on you internet access. It is nice if you wish to call Canada since most of the time it is include free of charge. I don’t have voice mail and I refuse to setup another answering machine, but that is just me 🙂 I say go for it….especially if you don’t have to sign a contract.
I’m using Comcast’s VOIP, dunno if its available in your area or not. There are few things that I think are better then Vonage’s offering.
1-Battery Backup – the “modem” that comcast installs to do VOIP and Internet has a built in 8 hour backup battery, so if your house loses power (assuming that the rest of Comcast’s network is up and running on its battery backups) you’ll still have phone service.
2- E911, Comcast’s VOIP service provides E911 information in all the areas Comcast offers it.
However, since I don’t ever look at my bill since its set to autopay… I couldn’t tell you how much it costs..

Depends upon if you believe in what theyre selling. So far our bills have been incredibly low and we fattened up on the free Ben ‘n Jerry’s.
