When we're about to do something stupid, we like to catalog the full extent of our stupidity for future reference.

Well, I think 10 out of 10 people polled say "no money for people who come to your door to beg!" Excellent.

I decided, in preparation for my grandma's visit, I should do some cleaning this weekend. The bathroom really needs a good scrubbing. And I did clean, in my own way. I'm tired of all the music that's on my iPod and hard drive. I wanted some new stuff. So I unpacked a box of cd's. I never unpacked them when I moved in October. Now, first I had to make room on my old computer to store more mp3's, which turned out to be a bit trickier than I thought it would be and I had to go into Terminal and get all sudo and chmod on it's ass. But finally it was clean and sparkly and I had cleaned off 10gb's of crap. So I unpacked the box. I cataloged each CD into my Delicious Library, setting aside the ones that did not bring up a cover image, so I could scan them and make one myself. Seriously. Other's I set aside to rip mp3's from. The rest, I put away in alphabetic order. [except for the soundtracks.] All that took hours, 147 cds. And there are two more boxes. But it's just the type of "cleaning" I like. And if you box up all your music for over 6 months, when you open it, it's like brand new stuff! You are so excited because you have not seen these cds in so long.

I was thrilled to see my really old Chris Isaak stuff and my Peter Gabriel cds. My Sarah McLauchlan and Letter's to Cleo. Cherry Poppin' Daddies and Jesus Jones. So fun! I still have a pile of cd's to work through, ripping to mp3. I don't know if I will finish the boxes before this weekend or not. I really should do some kind of "practical" cleaning. bah.

In Sims2 news, it starts shipping today. It won't be in stores for another.... 3 days 10 hours and 25 minutes as I write this. I know because aspyr has a nice countdown clock on their website. And no, I'm not just sitting and staring it, in anticipation... much.

Ah, the power of 90s "indie" music to soothe your soul. Now easily searchable.

Yay! Jesus Jones, I saw them support the incredible Pop Will Eat Itself, and remember singing "International Bright Young Thing" and "Info Freako", ah, great days, the singer from Jesus Jones now writes music for computer games.

In case you hadn't heard... Macnn is reporting that the Sims 2 is arriving early to some stores...

you might check your local Apple store..you might be able to start Simming early =)

I remember how long it took to rip, get cover art, and rate over 200 CD's...good luck. It's fun for like the first 100, and then you wonder why you even started. That being said, it is fun to go through those album booklets and reminisce. Even now on the computer I sometimes browse through album art and remember where I was when listening to certain records for the first time.

Once you have all those CD's labeled and cataloged it'll feel nice though, especially when you start making cool playlists. If you're not already on Audioscrobbler, you should think about joining. Especially now that you've "started over" with your mp3's and can build new playcounts.

Andy, I wondered what happened to Jesus Jones. I think that was among the first cd's I bought when I first got a CD player. My very first was So, by Peter Gabriel. It had to be So...

Dan, you gave me my favorite thing... a possible excuse not to clean house!

Izzy, luckily for me, I only have to scan the cover art for the cd's that don't have art on amazon.com. Delicious Library gets the art for me. But I never thought about RATING! That's a whole nuther weekend.

Audioscrobbler looks cool, I'm going to have to check that out.

Yeah, audioscrobbler is a lot more fun than you'd think. There's a great music community there and plenty of opportunity to meet people with similar tastes who can recommend new music.

Curiosity is a wonderful thing, apparently, after a quick google search it appears Jesus Jones have signed a new deal and are touring with a new album to follow. Now, this is the problem, when Pop Will Eat Itself reformed for a few gigs back at the beginning of the year I didn't go lest it ruined my wonderful memories of gigs gone-by (nostalgia is a way powerful force when you get into your early 30s, so beware), now if Jesus Jones are playing near I will have the dilemma. Now this poses another thought, as it is currently the vogue for 80s bands to reform for lenghthy tours, will we see 90's indie bands doing similar, EMF are doing it, Pop Will Eat Itself, Jesus Jones, Wonder Stuff, my T-Shirt budget will go astronomical, I now lay odds on Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine being the next to reform.
