Legalize Frostitution and Where the Fairies Come From

Tomorrow is Louise's birthday. But today she brought cupcakes to work for everyone. I learned two British things today. Apparently, when it's your birthday, it's tradition that you bring the cake for everyone. So Louise ordered dozens of lovely cupcakes from Cupcake Royale. When we went to pick them up today, she got an extra dozen "babycakes" so as not to run out of cupcake goodness. We, of course, had to sample the babycakes as soon as we got back to the car. I sampled chocolate with chocolate frosting. Awesomely delicious. You could taste the cocoa used in the frosting. Not cheap crisco frosting, I'll tell you what. They had a t-shirt there that said "legalize frostitution" and I wanted it bad. But I have, like, 973 t-shirts already. But it was a pink ringer T! Oh how I want that shirt. I'm pretty sure the happiness derived from that shirt would change my entire life. Right?

The second thing I learned is that, in Britain, they call cupcakes "fairy cakes." And x-mas lights are called "fairy lights." I guess that the UK is the land of the fairies. Later, during the Official Eating of the Fairy Cakes, I had a lemon drop cake. Second to chocolate things, I like lemon flavored things best. Yummmm.

Tomorrow, Tessa, Louise, Louise's BF and I are going to see the Violent Femmes play an outdoor concert at the zoo. Where we plan to eat thai food and sit on blankets and listen to the monkeys. Surprisingly, it's not even expected to rain. It should be quite pleasant, in the mid 70's. I'll let you know.

and cotton candy is fairy floss. although, that might just be in oz.

one question: if the British call being on vacation "on holiday," then what do they call holidays??? That Violent Femmes thing at the zoo sounds great. Would've been even better twenty years ago. great band.

I think that could just be in oz, i've never heard it called that here.

I've also never heard of the tradition that you have to bring the cake. But then again, maybe im just uncultured to it all.

Ummm, Lo all.

*waves*

THEViolent Femmes!?!?

If they made it a three billing show with Echo and the Bunnymen and the Dead Milkmen I not only would be there, but I would be screaming like the 15 year old I am locked up inside me.

That's it. I am moving to a major city so that I can attend concerts at the zoo while eating thai food. I'm so friggin jealous! ;-)

And go back and get that damn shirt! Also, could you see if they have it in big girl sizes and if I can get one mail order?

You absolutely must go back and get that shirt.

Have a blast, at the Femmes. I saw them, at an outdoor concert, back in 2000, and it rocked!

Feral, is it possible that Louise is LYING to me? I think so. Or perhaps it's some weird scottish thing.

now there are two calls for me to go back and get that delightful pink on pink "legalize frostitution" ringer t-shirt. i've decided to give it a week. if i still need on payday, i might get it. i did get a sticker that says 'I'm pro-cupcake. AND I VOTE!" which made me laugh and was only a dollar.

yes, thomas, THE violent femmes. i wish you were here, it would be fun watching you scream like a 15 year old.

MUST.HAVE.CUPCAKES! And the cool part, other than my birthday being on Saturday? I could totally drive up there and get some! And what are babycakes? Are they those mini cupcake things? Cuz I NEEEEEEEEED them!

Aw hell...go get the shirt, Jodi! So you have a billion other shirts...life is short! If you don't live now, when will you??? (I can justify anything!)

I'm going to read your blog everyday while I'm at work and comment on it.
I think I'm going to end up flipping a coin when I decide where to go, and I think I still have scabies, which is really funny. And itchy.

make that 3 votes for going back and getting that t-shirt. i would also be interested in one... if only we had cool places such as this to get one of said t-shirts around here. oh well.

zanie, they are baby cupcakes. delightful and delicious. you need cupcakes for your birthday, i can tell.

josh, you SHOULD be reading my blog every day and commenting. i'm your big sister and you love me and are curious about what i am up to. scabies? dude, you are going to have to wash everything you own in chemicals. or throw it all away and start over. you punk kids and your parasites.

judy, that's now 4 votes. one more vote and it's a done deal. that shirt is mine.

I take what I said back about vegan culinary school in Austin. 19-36 months is too long to spend ANYWHERE......

omg, jodi... check out this blog i found while searching for "legalize frostitution"...

that's it. that shirt is mine.

josh, i'd be surprised to hear of you staying anywhere for 12 months, let alone 19.

Hi Jodi, it could be some weird Scottish thing. It’s often cold up there, the locals wear kilts & whiskey is there drink of choice. So its possible that rational thought shoots out the window at times, & it doesn’t even have the courtesy to open it. But i do hear the the scenery is nice up there.

you know, i accused her of lying. or this being a scottish thing and she agreed maybe it was because stingy scottish people wouldn't want to chip in for cake at the office. so the only way to get some would be to bring it yourself.

definitely get the shirt! enjoy the concert, and happy b-day to louise!
