I was thinking....
do you think we have an inner musical instrument, for lack of a better way to explain it... for example, for me, it's the cello. The sound frequency of a cello must just speak to me, because it affects me more, hits me deeper, than other instruments. I must be connected, on the inside, with cello strings.
What musical frequency are you on? [because I can't think of a better way of saying 'what musical instruments gets it done for you?']

By far, the solo guitar ... mainly blues, but I have heard some classical that has pulled me aside and whispered beauty into my ears.

A solo acoustic guitar gets me every time. But I also love the piano and Violin. But I play, well used to play, haven't in a long time, jazz trumpet.
That was too much info wasn't it?

Mine seems to be the grandfather clock. I was sitting in my dining room today and it just started resonating. It might just have been my legs shaking, but I'm not ruling anything out.
Barring that it's the clarinet - preferably bass, but I love the woodiness - it never gets the melodies enough (damn you saxes and trumpets).

I definitely see what you mean about the cello - remember that song from The Hunger (the piano had the same vibe)?
I love me some accordion - that does it for me at least for mood improvement.
If I'm remotely peevish, I have to stay away from the bagpipes. There was some guy and a boombox outside of Pacific Place that knew how to blow but I was in A Mood and had to drop and roll away.

Voice. I guess that could be cheating but it really is an instrument. Bass or Tenor doesn't really matter but depth of expression does. I can't listen to Alison Krause without crying. Adam Duritz of the Counting Crows can literally crawl around inside my head with his voice. Someone who will sing to me can have absolutely anything they want as long as it is mine to give or easily stolen.

As much as you'd think I'd say the guitar (which would be a close second) I have to find myself agreeing with you about the cello. It is seriously one of the coolest sounding instruments ever. Strategically placed in the right piece of music, it is astonishing. The guitar is maleable enough to sound like most anything. But the cello just sounds like a cello.

different frequencies... it depends on what language I am speaking, my general mood and such... but among my faves are the following:
cello
oboe
harpsichord
viola
and my most favorite BAGPIPES!!!!!!
Also, would the moog count?

I'm definately a cello girl. Pablo Casals doing the Bach cello suites completely consumes me.

For me lately, it's a kazoo.

the thing that looks like two hands and it claps and is made of a hard kind of plastic

Ooh. This is a great post...
Me? A Hammond B3 Organ - and it's gotta be real. I'll have none of this digitized-synth-trying-to-be-real crap. There's just something about a cat that REALLY knows how to vamp his (or her) B3 under a walking blues line...
Makes me feel... well... blue -- but in a Sweet Home Chicago sort of way.

The violin, definitely.

My inner instrument is a saxophone. That smoky, husky tone grabs my gut every time I hear it. And don't even get me started on the great sax players: David Sanborn is king.
I personally feel that there is no other instrument that can portray a sexual undertone like a sax does. Good jazz sax music is almost always good sex music.
