Then and Now: Episode 14 Back from the Dead
Then and Now is back! Did you notice it was gone? You guys remember Oasis? Showed up sometime in the 90's and thought they were the greatest thing since Frosted Flakes. In fact, if I remember correctly they either considered themselves the next Beattles, or better than the Beattles. Either way, it doesn't impress me, I don't really think the Beatles were all that. That's right, I said it. All you Beattle fans can just suck it. Anyway, Oasis did have one song that was sorta catchy, Wonderwall. I picked this song not because I care about the original, but because this is another case in which the cover kick's the original's ass.

This reminded me (don't ask how, probably the darkness) about the NIN and Johnny Cash versions of Hurt. Both interesting in their own right.

cat power's cover album is great! i do like her in small doses, but ever since we saw her live i can hardly listen to her. she was SOOOOOOO difficult to watch because she was either really messed up on drugs or really introverted to the point where neither she nor the people watching her really wanted to be there. her voice and songwriting is great, though!
your saying that oyu don't care much for the beatles totally reminded me of this thing that someone said in college. there was this guy, paul hirsch, who was like the nicest guy ever. anyway, i had never seen him lose his cool or say anything even slightly uppity with anyone until this one night when this chick was over and said that she didn't like the beatles because they were too poppy. this was too much for paul who replied, "well, that's kind of what happens when you invent pop!" HA!

Don't forget the incredible Ryan Adams version as well. It might just be better than the original.

How could you forget the whiny "Champagne Supernova" (pronounced by the boys as Cham-pain Supernover)?

It's not so much that I forgot, as I just don't care, cuz they are dum. d-u-m.

Y'know, when you put that extra "T" in "Beatles", you come up with a great name for a band. It would rhyme with "Seattles".
