Movie queue

I cancelled my Netflix account last June, on my last trip to the states. I missed it, so I signed up for zip.ca. The problem is, I can't remember what was on my Netflix queue. It numbered in the 100's. The movies on zip.ca do not seem to be as readily available as they were on Netflix, so you need to keep a big ziplist, so something you want is available to send you.

Since I can't remember what was on my Netflix queue, am I asking you for suggestions. Rent any good movies lately?

Oceans 13 was pretty good. I would suggest any Norah Jones concerts as well. How about some classics like All the President's Men or Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?

Dan In Real Life (not sure if it is out on video yet).
Blood Diamond (a little over the top on violence, but a great story)
American President (West Wing in 2 hours or less)

I just saw "Stranger than Fiction" a few weeks ago and really loved it, despite not being a big Will Farrell fan.

I posted my top rated netflix movies awhile back, but it's kind of dated, and most are must-sees, so there might not be much new there... http://erik.nomuse.com/2006/12/my_top_rated_netflix_movies.html

"Waitress"

You should pick an actor that you like, and put every movie they've ever done on it. Unless, of course, this costs you a lot of money each time.

I love Little Miss Sunshine. If you haven't seen it, do!

Lives of Others

Notes on a Scandal

I am gonna go old school and say:
"Pump Up the Volume",
"Equilibrium",
"Benny and Joon",
"Hedwig and the Angry Inch"
and last, but not least,
"Toy Soldiers"

I rented Oceans 13 on the weekend and I must disagree with DrinkJack. It is one of the WORST movies ever made, ever...and I liked Oceans 11.

Here is a direct quote from my sister: "Oceans 13 is shit."

Pirates of the Caribbean #3 also sucked, heavily. I want pirates, not namby pamby Keira Knightly with her fake puffy lips trying to act.

I do recommend:
Flight of the Conchords (TV series)
Eagle vs. Shark (New Zealand weird sad funny movie)
Pretty much anything directed by Jim Jarmusch or Hal Hartley -- well, early Hal Hartley.

I think the advice to pick an actor is a big mistake, as evidenced by Brad Pitt. 12 Monkeys: good.
7 Years in Tibet: sucked.
Kalifornia: great.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith: sucked.

Pick directors instead, like the 2 aforementioned, and I like me some Wes Anderson or the Coen Bros. David Cronenberg. George A. Romereo (if you don't like zombies, get Martin. Awesome film.)

ooooh, I see someone also said to see Blood Diamonds. If you haven't already seen this film, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Lame love story screws the whole thing up. (see also Pirates of the Caribbean #3)

Read Ishmael Beah's book "A Long Way Home" instead of seeing Blood Diamonds.

Alright, now that I have pooped on other folks' taste in films....

Hi Jodi,
My suggestion is to queue up some oldies just to mix it up. I've been having a fun time renting all things Hitchcock lately. He did so many movies I've just got them sprinkled all over my movie queue. Don't forget to include some of the Alfred Hitchcock Presents TV series too for short story entertainment. Of all the Hitchcock, I still think my favorite is Rebecca.

I've also been getting Elizabeth Taylor movies in there too since I wasn't familiar with her movies - National Velvet and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof were good.

We're big fans of TV on DVD. We're catching the last season of 24 now. The last movie we watched (and seriously one of two movies we watched on DVD in the last year) was A Life Aquatic. Hilarious.

Have you seen Once yet? That's one of the better movies I've seen recently. And also the TV show Arrested Development. If you haven't seen it, you have to rent it and see all the episodes.

I also liked Stranger than Fiction. And I just barely watched Billy Elliot, thought it's been out for a while.

I haven't seen a lot of newer, or even half way decent movies lately, but I will second the vote for Little Miss Sunshine. I missed the beginning the first time I saw it, then it came on again a week or so later, and I decided to watch the beginning and ended up watching the whole thing through again.

Oh, and Lady In the Water is a strange/fun little movie, if you haven't seen it. I'd also suggest Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind, again, if you haven't seen it.

Hey ... I'm a jodiferous too.

Suggestions:

* Ghost World
* For Your Consideration
* City of Angels (downer)
* Stranger Than Fiction
