50 Word Fiction Fridays Vol. 17

The theme this week is hearts, be they broken, battered, bruised, loving, warm, big, cold, full, beating or transplanted.

Stay Fresh Heart

I keep my heart in the freezer, sealed tight in a tupperware container, back behind the ice cream, the frozen peas and the vodka. That way, when I am tempted to carelessly give it away again, I will have time to think twice. While I wait for it to thaw.

  1. I Heart Squink
Three pushes and a heart is changed forever, birth creates a new sensation within a musty, curious heart. Like floodgates opening upon dry land, the heart of a new mother upon the birth of a child is open, raw, ready for anything. It is a fierce heart. A loving heart.

  2. Her heart, held together with scotch tape and Elmer’s glue, was displayed proudly on the refrigerator. She’d secured it between the grocery list and a recipe for rice pudding with a magnetic carrot. As he ate his ceral, she waited hopefully for him to notice her work of art.

  3. zanie says:

She jumped into her car and tore down the driveway, leaving the chaos of her broken love life behind her. The stereo blasted, ìÖheart-breaker, dream maker, love taker, donít you mess around with meÖî With her hair streaming behind her, she drove on to find her next date with destiny.

  4. She saw herself sink the knife deeper into his heart and watched his body twitch one last time. Giddily she thought about forever lowered toilet seats, floors no longer littered with dirty socks, neatly folded…
Then he awoke, blinked, and asked, “Darling, why are you staring at me like that?”

  5. He sat there stone faced, no emotions visible. Everyone thought he was a chump, just taking up space. A complete loser as long as they have known him. Unloved by all. He paused, then bet everything. They ridiculed his decision.
Queen of Hearts on the river card, Royal Flush. Suckers.

  6. Remember what we decided? We go together.
So why am I sitting here listening to this damn machine in this damn room with its damn smell looking at your damn lifeless body.
    Take me with you.

the anesthetic pinholed her perception, but clearly heard the doctor say, “aright, folks, let’s get this one over quick, i gotta lunch at noon. it should be easy, the heart is only broken.”
the nurse hummed cat stevens’ ‘the first cut is the deepest.’
she decided that she would lead a revolution of “slack” when she return from her slumber, which she heavily tripped into upon finishing that thought.

  8. Jodi says:

jack, you took it a whole different direction! I like that.
kay, you are trying to make me cry! Sebastian Kivel says “hi!”
loon, one day, we should do a new stickman story. and by “we” i mean mostly you do the work, and i just cheer you on.
tuffkid, see? you don’t have to take your clothes off, to have a good time, oh-no.

  9. I sat in the theater, unbelieving that I agreed to sit through “Titanic”. You can google how it happened, and you won’t hear Celine shriek how her “heart will go on.”
As the lights came up, she noticed the tears on my face.
I’m a damn sucker for love stories.
