Darling Nikkie: Revisited

I’m a little blue this morning. Sometimes I get myself mixed up in things I am not even aware of, and when the dust settles and all parties are settled, I’m standing alone in the dust wondering what happened and why I am the one left out in the cold. Now, totally manageable situation, because I’m not really out in the cold in life. But if you spend a few hours listening to incredibly beautiful, but incredibly sad, music, you can come to believe that you are.
So I decided, no more Damien Rice today…. I simply cannot take it. And somehow, I stumbled upon the perfect antidote. Completely by accident.
This song is available from their website for download. But I have a feeling I am going to need more than one song.

They just released iTunes 5.0

I’m downloading it now.

I do not have a cell phone. I’ve tried to have them before, a long time ago, but I’m not much of a phone girl. There are times I don’t want to be reachable. However, there are times I think it would be nice to have one. When I am late, or lost, or if I had a car problem. And I’ve thought about getting another pre-paid phone for that purpose. But until today, no phone has captured my fancy enough to tempt me. Until today.

Blinking Light moments

Today is my eldest brother’s birthday, so let’s all say Happy Birthday to my big brother, lest he think we don’t care. Because we do. If we didn’t, would it hurt as much? I doubt it. Cheers to you, big bro.

After admitting my new love of all things Eel, Chris suggested that I try their latest release. And so I have, thank you iTunes music store for addressing my immediate needs, immediately. The way they were meant to be addressed. This is a double cd release, so I am working my way through it, but in a day or two, I’ll post something good for you to hear. In the mean time, you can hear a new Eels song every day at their My Space site. But then you have to venture on to myspace. And so far, with the exception of a couple of people, myspace.com kinda scares me. But go there today, before the day before yesterday’s song disappears “I’m going to stop pretending that I did not break your heart.” Because so far, it is one of my favorites on this new album.

Blinking Lights and Other Revelations

Oh, look at me, the music reviewer. How cute.

The bitch is in the smile

A few weeks ago, Chris wrote that grocery stores in his area were not longer just playing "vapid soulless" music, but rather brand new no-name versions of vapid soulless music. I told him this must be an east coast thing, because here on the west coast, I was still hearing the original, delightful recordings. Especially in the am/pm I visit every morning. I’m always walking out singing some lyric I have not heard since I was a kid, like "My name’s not Lisa…. My name is Julie." I don’t know what they play in there, what station, but they play some seriously great crap. And I think I’ve John Denver in there more than a few times.

I wanted to share with you Friday mornings aural gift, since I sang it for most of the rest of the day. How can you not love a duet like this?

Thank you Mr. Masked Man

Yay! So lot’s of people who like the Kate Bush. Let me ask you this, do you guys remember USA’s Nightflight show? It was on late late on Fridays and/or Saturdays. Started in the earlyish 80’s to the latetish 80’s. Then it was replaced by “Up All Night.” Not the same thing and not nearly as good. Nightflight was where I first heard, and saw, Kate Bush. I also remember they had lots of crazy animation and shorts. I remember an animated Lenny Bruce thing… it was the coolest show. We need shows like that now. But we’d never get ’em.

A few people mentioned that Kate is supposed to be working on a new album. And I am very much looking forward to that.

Don’t blame me, blame it on the bossa nova

The other day, I was trying to find a copy of "Sympathy for the Devil" I am sure I own it somewhere. I have an mp3… I have to. But I couldn’t find one on my hard drive, so I went to Apple Music Store. The only versions of "Sympathy for the Devil" done by the Rolling Stones, available on iTunes, is live. I didn’t want live. But I found something even better.

Bossa N’ Stones. It’s Stones music done to a bossa nova beat, with female singers. So delightful and bubbly it was, Tessa and I knew we had to have it. She said, "I have five dollars in my pocket." and I said, "I’m downloading it now." How we lived without it, I do not know.

What does warm colitas smell like, anyway?

I finally managed to hook up with my good friends The Moons yesterday. They’ve been MIA for several months. Well, missing in MY action. They’ve had plenty of their own action. They’ve moved back down to Tacoma. Bad for me. But Mr. Moon is still working in Seattle. Mrs. Moon is now on bed rest, due to her second pregnancy. Bed rest is difficult at best when you are a stay at home mom of a 20 month old kid. Despite the fact that the second soon to be born Moon is a girl, they are still not considering Jodi as a name. What is up with that? It’s a great name!

So I was thinking about the song “Hotel California” by the Eagles this morning. Remember that one line in which Don Henly says “So I called up the Captain, ‘Please bring me my wine,’ He said we haven’t had that spirit here since 1969.” Do you think by “spirit” he was referring to the wine itself? As in Wine and Spirits? Because I always thought he was commenting that they have not had that kind of spunk, that kind of party spirit, until Don got there. Not since 1969. Thirty odd years and I’ve always thought this. This morning it occurred to me that I could be wrong. Of course, later they mention pink champagne on ice, so maybe I was right all along, and the Captain was just stoked to have Don’s drinking spirit amongst the guests.

I don’t know… I was just thinking… what do you guys think?

Happy Father’s Day!

I have to tell you about the Father’s Day card I got my stepdad. It was too perfect. It starts out:

In my heart, I always appreciated everything you did for me.

And goes on to say:

And, in my heart, I always cleaned my room.

And, in my heart, I always took out the trash.

The inside doesn’t matter, it was the front of the card that made him laugh. It made my grandma laugh. It made my mom laugh. In fact, maybe everybody laughed a little too much? Hmmmm….

Here is a song for Father’s Day!
