It speaks to me of the dual nature of love.

Wow, some of you guys don’t like that necklace at all! Weird. I quite liked it. I showed it to Mr. and Mrs. Moon, who’s answers were similar to some of yours. Mrs. Moon wanted to know if I was a cutter. Mr. Moon said it said “cokehead” to him. Neither one of these occurred to me. To me, it said:

I heart. But if you hurt me, I will CUT YOU.

In cute kinda retro safety-pin razor blade punk kinda way. But it also reminds me of a favorite song of mine, Razor Valentine by Thea Gilmore.

Love hurts, people. It’s not 100% warm and fluffy. Even when it’s going well, it’s disorienting and confusing. In the beginning, it’s like having bipolar disorder and suffering through the manic phase. Fun, yes. But totally disruptive. Even if you are enjoying it, it fucks you up. Don’t even get me started on when it goes poorly.

Enough jewelry Rorschach testing, go read this Ode to Bloggers, it’s funny.

  1. I don’t see it so much as “a love hurts, and if you hurt me bad enough, well, I will slice you like a loaf of bread” thing… though I kinda like the idea.
But, I it could be the cocaine thing too… forgot all about that part of razor blade lore.
Go figure, the razor blade mythos…

Wow, some significant associations here. As I said, first impression Cocaine. My second impression was shaving and even my third (I’m a risk taker…I trade derivatives, play on railway bridges and don’t wash my hands before I eat) don’t come close to the cutters and lovers out there. And you Jodi, you are a romantic! In fact you are worse than a hopeless romantic, you are a hopeful one, which by-the-way is a SUPERIOR thing to be.
I don’t buy this whole, “I never want to fall in love again”, message for one minute. When it comes, it comes, resist it at your peril!
    Have a lovely weekend.

I can totally see your meaning now, Jodi. Yep, I agree with whatever you say, OK. Now put down the sharp pretties, Jodi and come back to bed, OK sweetheart? Please sweetness, but the slicy-dicey down for Boo-Boo Bear, ok?

“hey, treat me nice and no one gets hurt. that’s not so hard, is it?”
Good advice, for love and life 🙂

The necklace implies a dare, or a challenge. You could make one similar to it for pennies by blunting a real razor blade and bedazzling it with a wee jewel shaped like a heart. You could make a series with different jems reflecting holidays or moods.
Where one person sees danger or a cry for help, I see a craft opportunity.
    Also: Hi! How you doin’?

  6. Itís like the post imprisonment version of Martha Stewart Home Crafts. ìToday we will be making a necklace with a razor blade and decorative homemade shivÖî

I saw that episode of Martha Stewart Living. It’s also where she showed how to use a broken pager and a corn cob to make a lovely vibrator for your butch who owns you.

  8. Lisa, that’s too many steps. It’s much easier to just click “add to basket” and type in your credit card number. you KNOW i am not crafty that way.
