Goodbye 2007

I don’t make New Year’s resolutions. I thought about it this morning, and the resolutions I would make for this year are goals I have had since moving to Canada. And since quitting my job. Maybe a fresh calendar page, hell a fresh calendar for that matter, will help me strengthen my resolve towards these goals. But I would not hold my breath. I don’t know about you, but New Year’s Eve makes me more reflective on the past than the future.

It’s hard for me not to look back at last New Year’s and remember my stepdad was still alive and 16 days from learning he had cancer. Last New Year’s my stepdad was alive and not dying anytime soon. This New Year’s, he’s gone.

Last New Years I was unmarried, newly unemployed and spending a great deal of time driving back and forth between Canada and the US. Entirely too much time on the ferry to Vancouver Island. Now I’m married, still unemployed, living in Canada. But I don’t ride that damn ferry very often. Thank god.

It’s been quite a year, hasn’t it?

Happy New Year everyone!

Jodi gives out a recipe, oddly enough.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. Mine was lovely, thank you for asking. We actually celebrated on the 22nd, when some of my family came up to visit.

I was a bit stressed out, because I’ve never hosted a holiday before. I enjoy my holiday meals at my mom’s or my Aunt Vickie’s. (Again, the way god intended it). Since I knew that they were due to have the big Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve, which would be turkey, I decided to make a ham. And I had to find holiday dishes that we don’t usually have as well. I bought a holiday cookbook and decided to make Sweet Potato Stuffing. Thought that would go nicely with ham.

There was a brief scare when I could not find Jamaican Jerk Seasoning in the store. Nor did I even know what it was. Neither did my mom. But I found a recipe online for homemade Jamaican Jerk Seasoning, made up of spices we had between us.

Anyway, the stuffing turned out yummy, and it’s super easy to make, so I’m going to share the recipe with you. I know, I know… that’s unlike me. But you have to understand, collecting recipes is what I do now. It’s outta control. I buy Real Simple every month and rip out the recipes and try them. If they are good, I copy them down on recipe cards. Swear. To. God. There is a freakin’ Bon Appétit in my house right now!

Crazy.

Merry Christmas to all!

And, just in case you’ve quit believing in Christmas miracles, I’d like to tell you that we did get a Wii for Jackson. Yes! We’d given up, pretty much. My mom had tried to get one down in the states as well. Nothing. But then Wil’s friend won one at his company Christmas party. He already had one, so he sold it to Wil.

Truly, if you tried to find a Wii this Christmas, you will know – that truly is a Christmas miracle.

Heads up, Mom

Wil insists that my mom is going to play Guitar Hero 3 with him, when she comes up this weekend.

I don’t even know if my mom knows what Guitar Hero 3 is. I warned him that she has quick, nimble fingers. And musical training.* He is not worried.

Me: You know, my mom might not be interested in playing Guitar Hero 3.

Wil: Oh, she’ll play. She’ll play.

*musical training does not really come into play when playing GH3. Rhythm does, I suppose.

Cookie cutter christmas issues… same as everyone else’s.

I am not even remotely ready for Christmas. Well, maybe remotely ready. I’ve done some shopping, and I have presents for some. I, of course, have my wrapping paper. Yesterday I bought a rolling pin so I could make sugar cookies. But it’s not good enough, kids, not nearly because … I DON’T HAVE ANY COOKIE CUTTERS!!!

Anyhoo, today I’m cleaning. No sense in going out shopping on a Sunday if you don’t have to. And we all know how much I hate cleaning. So much that I have to tell you guys I’m cleaning so everyone knows how brave I am.

Brave little soldier.

Ok, so what’s on Jodi’s t-shirt TODAY?

Nothing. This is actually what is on Wil’s t-shirt today.

Either you get it, or you don’t. It’s a Simpsons thing. I would not get it, except for the fact that Wil says it all the time. (You know I don’t get The Simpsons) So when I saw the Glarkware Limited Edition, I knew he had to have it. (Andy, you are correct, yesterday’s shirt was a glarkware as well.) The limited editions go on sale for one month only, go into production the following month and then ship out. That’s it. You can’t get them after that, unless there is a left over sale. Wil says every time he wears this shirt, someone makes a comment about it. A girl came up to us in the mall the other day, wanting to know where she could get one. She can’t get one. It’s SPECIAL.

I consider it one of my more successful t-shirt purchases.
