Everything is better with kittens, people.

Evildeb hates me. Actually, she just resents me. She was discussing one of the more frustrating aspects of my former job with Dr. Stevil and KK, when I chatted her … the fact that I don’t have to talk about this subject, or deal with it, makes her resent me. It is somewhat upsetting, but understandable, because she is evil and tends to feel things at a more intense level than the rest of us non-evil people. I think she just misses me. I miss her too. Apparently I left some stuff behind, so I’m going to have to stop by soon.

After a lot of thought, about two weeks at least, I’ve decided to clean the kitchen first. The kitchen, office and bedroom have to be clean before the family room, dining room and bathroom can really be picked up. Stuff has migrated all over the house and there is no place to put anything away. I described it as “teenage girl bedroom chaos dirty, but over the entire house,” to my stepmom. Anyway, I was making good progress until a song from the musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer came on my iTunes shuffle. Then I found myself sitting down to watch season 7, which I never watched on disc, and so had missed all the commentary and special features. I have all the seasons on dvd now because I bought myself this a few months back:

It’s so pretty. I gave all my single seasons I did own to my cousin. The best part is, I think I finally have Wil primed to watch BtVS. He’s a big Firefly and Serenity fan, so he knows the genius of Joss. Got him hooked on Veronica Mars, so I know he can accept the premise of kick ass teenage girls who solve problems while wearing cool clothes. I’m looking forward to sharing Buffy with him.

ok… back to cleaning… i know… quit stalling.

Snowed in, in Canada

Woke up to inches of snow on the ground, and more fluffy stuff falling. I suppose, to some, snow would be expected in Canada. But this is Victoria. It’s below the 49th. Basically, whatever happens in Seattle, happens in Victoria. So, yes, they are getting snow down home as well. I think about a half foot has fallen here already, not sure what that is in centimeters. And it’s snowing again now.

We went for a walk today. The snow is still new and soft. Sidewalks, which were newly shoveled when we walked one direction, were completely blanketed again when we came back. I made bear prints in the snow. And threw a snowball at a telephone pole. Well, aimed for one at least. That was simply to show the world at large that they were in no danger from me, when it came to snowball fights. I considered making an angel, but I really only brought the one pair of jeans, spending most of my time in yoga pants when we hang out, and didn’t want to completely soak them. We stopped at a coffee shop and I had a large mug of hot chocolate, with whipped cream, and a chocolate swirl. It was a situation in which one could hardly avoid getting whipped cream on one’s nose. Watching the snow out the window, I kept thinking about Colorado. I need to go back there, someday soon.

I bet if I went outside now, in the dark, the world would be all silent, the way it is in the new snow. Everything muffled. Shhhh…. goodnight snow.

books

Reading, writing and ….. umm… warcraft.

I’ve been lax about keeping track of my reading for the last few months. Truth is, I’ve been reading a lot of crap. Well, not all crap. I’ve been buying Agatha Christie books on the ferry. Finish one, go up, grab another. But I think I’ve read all the AC books they stock. I’ve bought a lot of supermarket top 10 crap too. It hasn’t been worth keeping track of. Except Agatha Christie, she’s cool. So, anyhoo, one of the things I am trying to do now, in 2007, is keep better track of what I am reading, as well as reading higher quaqlity stuff. This does not include the World of Warcraft Master Guide Edition Vol. 2. Which will need to be updated when the expansion pack comes out next week anyway.

My question to you is, what are you reading? Any recommendations? I am reading a book I tried to read last year. “Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman’s Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia” (Elizabeth Gilbert). I’m more successful this time around, I’ll let you know what I think.

I rode the bus yesterday

I rode the bus yesterday. There, I said it twice. So it must be true. It is true. I know… I know… I hate the bus and public transportation confuses me. In fact, hanging out online and plotting my bus course took up most of my day yesterday. I carefully wrote down, in my little moleskin, each of the three buses I would need to take. What direction they would be heading, when they approached me, and even on which side of the street the bus would stop. And no, my IQ is quite firmly planted well into the triple digits, thank you very much. It’s just that I’m a driver. With the exception of traffic, I love to drive. I sometimes take the 9pm ferry home from Victoria, knowing that will put me on the US freeway about 11pm, free and clear to drive and think and sing for two hours.

However, I was meeting some friends for dinner and drinks, and they wanted to buy me “hey, congratulations on quitting your job you bum” drinks. Being unemployed, I cannot refuse free anything. Most anything. But I’m terribly terribly prissy when it comes to drinking and driving. As in, I just won’t do it. So I thought, why not get out of the house, and meet your fellow man on the bus? So I used the route planner and 10 to three pm, I was off. iPod in my ears, I started walking down streets in my neighborhood I’ve never walked in the 20+ years this house has been in the family. Weird.

My most reverent wish was that I would meet some real characters on the bus. I have never NOT seen something bizarre, or had something stupid happen, when I ride the bus. Like the time Lloyd, Evildeb and I tried to ride the bus to an art festival. While the driver’s head was turned, Evildeb fed the bus pass given to us by our POE into the dollar bill slot, so it would be “read.” It jammed the whole machine, and she had to drive down to the Metro office days later to pick up the pass. Oh the mass confusion as the driver explained to each new passenger that he would have to take the dollars by hand. Good times.

But the truth is, nothing happened. No one did or said anything, smelled any particular way, expelled any bodily fluids, or performed any grooming rituals, that were at all out of the ordinary. And I just sat and listened to music and read my book.

And this story sums up my current fears. Is my world running out of blog fodder?

Rule #37 for the Consciously Unemployed

Get Dressed Before Noon.

It helps. Last night I had dinner and drinks with some work friends, and they asked me what I was doing with my time. Truth was, it was only my 2nd day back from Canada, so I had not had too much time to do anything. However, my answer sets a precedent I am trying to avoid.

“Well, yesterday I took two naps and had a facial.”

Let me count the ways…

“See this? This is what a hair from my nose looks like.”

“What? Let me see… crap. Man, that made me almost hit a parked truck.”

“That accident report would have been awesome! ‘So, tell me what happened…’.”

“Well, officer, he was showing me a nose hair…”

Huevos de la Feliz Año Nuevo

Hey kids, are you having a nice holiday? It hasn’t hit me, yet, that I am unemployed, as we would have been closed this week anyway. I’m sure things will starting appearing out of whack on the 2nd. I’m so out of touch with the outside right now, I didn’t even know about Sadaam.

I wanted to take a minute to wish you all Happy New Year. It’s been a roller coaster year, I don’t know about you guys. We are staying in tonight, Jack’s over. We’ll probably have a Veronica Mars Season 2 marathon later on, with jiffy pop. I’ll see you all when I get home, and we’ll figure out what I’m going to do with myself now.

Boxing Day – I think that means there will be punching.

Canadians are so nice. On Christmas day, the ferry ticket guy gave me a candy cane and a free one way walk on ferry ticket Yesterday morning. Then, inside the terminal, the general goods store, which was one of the stores open at 7:30 xmas morning, gave me free candy bars.

I felt bad. Here they are, working on Christmas, and they are giving me the presents. I didn’t get them anything.
