Canada, pru, William, work

O Canada – my home and not-so-native land?

it’s been hard for me to blog the last few weeks, because I’ve had a secret. What was on my mind I could not blog about. Not until I spoke with certain people first, took certain steps. But, it’s all good now, and so I can tell you.

I gave notice yesterday, at my POE. I’m leaving at the end of the month. End of the year, I suppose, as well. I’m moving to Canada. Ironic that I should do it now, and not in 2004, but since I’m not doing it for political reasons, I guess that doesn’t matter. Obviously, I am going to be moving in with Wil. We are looking to get a place for February 1st. And really, I could not be happier.

Moving to Victoria is a lot more complicated than moving to, say, Portland or Los Angeles. It’s a gigantic pain in the ass, to be honest. I’m doing the research, but from what I can tell, I’m going to have to inventory and price every single item I move over there. Every. Single. Item. Like I can remember how much my monkey socks cost! This is what I am going to spend January doing. Separating things into 1. Taking, 2. Storing and 3. Garage Sale. I’ve never had one, but I have some friends who might have a few things to sell, not worth an entire GS themselves, but combined I bet we’ll have a good stash.

I can’t work there, without a VISA. Luckily, I am in a situation where, if we are very careful and budgeted, I can take time off. I’m going to be… wait for it…. a HOUSEWIFE! Hahahahaha! Oh man, just thinking of it cracks me up. I don’t know… what do you think I should do with my time? Improved blogging output, for one. In fact, I hope to do a lot more writing. Learn to cook, maybe? Kick off my shoes and get pregnant? Who knows.

So… what do you think? Be prepared for much discussion of immigration and the politics of introducing Your Cat to His Cat, and Him, and a New Home, all at once, over the next few weeks.

Boo! Yea or Nay.

One, do you believe in ghosts? And if so, have you ever had a ghostly experience? I’ll explain later when I talk about my weekend.

I’m on the ferry ride back to the mainland right now, and, truth be told, I think I am getting sick. I think I have a cold. There is a difference between allergies and a cold and I am feeling the difference. This sucks because I am leaving for North Carolina on Wednesday to spend 5 days at my stepmonster’s house for Thanksgiving. I don’t want to be sick! Crap. Anyway, I’ll post this when I get home and you guys can think about it and tell me your thoughts on ghosts and I’ll explain why I asked tomorrow.

Note: I wrote that last night when I was on the ferry, but forgot to post it. I decided to stop off at the office and pick up my computer so I could work from home today…. Monday. That got me home about 1:30, since I had caught the last ferry. Too sleepy. And feeling kinda crappy. I just didn’t want you guys to think I was sitting around not blogging due to WoW. Cuz I haven’t played in days. Swear to gods.

Please send animals two by two and also an arc.

It is raining like crazy. There is a small lake forming on my driveway. It was like this all weekend as well, up in Victoria. It’s the rain we are using as an excuse for not taking the Moons to any of the incredibly interesting touristy things to do, but rather keep up a continuous stream of eating out, having cocktails, napping in the luxurious hotel beds and meeting various Canadians they’d never meet otherwise. The wax museum is just going to have to wait for another day, I guess.

in a atypical display of hospitality, someone on the street asked Mr. Moon if he would please do him a favor and go to hell. Mr. Moon is a very polite and cooperative boy, but he decided to decline said favor.

I don’t have any real stories to tell you. It was pretty laid back and relaxy. I got to have another brunch at John’s Place and it was just as good as the first brunch. If you like brunch, and you are in Victoria, give it a try. I heard their non-breakfast food is good too, but I just have not made it off the breakfast menu yet.

Tomorrow…. we vote.

I don’t know if you need to blame the entire country, but I’m pretty sure Wil plays some not so small part in it.

Well, I think I am breathing without putting myself into a drug induced coma.

I’ve become really good at missing the ferry. It’s not hard to do. If you have a reservation on the 5pm ferry off of Vancouver Island on a Sunday, and that ferry is “full” if you show up one minute past the check-in time, if you show up at 4:31, you’ve officially missed the ferry. And you may have to wait only an hour, or maybe two, depending on the schedule. I always arrive in plenty of time for my 9pm ferry on Friday. I’m usually there about 8. But one little traffic mistake on the way off the island…. and I’m getting home as late as 1am. Depending. BC Ferries has made so much money on me, just on non-refundable $17.50 reservation fees, for boats I never sailed on.

The allergy attack actually started when I was in the car, heading to the ferry, not while we were watching Veronica Mars DVD’s. I was heading home. I was just driving along and then BAMF! Snot. Tears. Itchy eyes. Sneezes. But I think it’s pretty obvious. I’ve become allergic to leaving Canada.

I home this weekend

Yay. I’m Home. Not on my way to Victoria. Yippee. Who woulda thunk I’d miss the ferry wait line. But, I needed a little break, as it’s a bit of a journey each weekend. Last weekend, I got a horrible headache on Sunday, wasn’t feeling well and didn’t even make it home until Monday morning. No, I’m serious, I really did have a headache. Anyway, I leave about 5pm on Friday, get to Tsawwassen, wait for the 9pm ferry, and get to Victoria about 11. It’s a long day. So, this weekend I stayed home.

To compensate for this, I have many important plans this weekend. Chief among them are my shopping/dinner with the Girls Who Eat Meat Adventure Club. We are finally going to eat at what can only be considered THE consummate restaurant for our little club, the Buenos Aries Grill. It’s all about the meat meat meat there, I’ll let you know how it goes.

And second amongst these plans… cleaning. Shut up. I’m serious. I’m cleaning. I’ve arranged for Mrs. Moon to come and help me. I’m paying her, don’t worry. She is showing up Sunday morning, and keeping me on task. And, in this way, I expect that some surfaces will be cleaned. It’s a pretty genius plan. She’s a cleaning/organizing savant.

So… yeah, I’m in country this weekend. Yay.
