I think so, Brain, but where are we gonna find a tattoo parlor that’s open at this time of night?

I had a lovely email discussion the other day with Chris about books. The recommendations were flying fast and furious, I know I put some books on my reserve list at the library already. I’m going to have to review those emails and make myself a little list. Anyway, the point is, one of the books was available yesterday. [ “The Sparrow : A Novel” (MARY DORIA RUSSELL), in case you are curious. ] Since I had finished The Shadows of the Wind book, I scampered on down there to get it. But it seems that somewhere between the arrival of the book, the updated status in my account, and my scampering, the book disappeared. And I just looked at that librarian with frustration and thought ” Cmd+F! Cmd+F! come on… Cmd+F The Sparrow, it’s gotta be here somewhere!” [that would be Control+F for you Windows users.]

That is what the computer has done to me. When I can’t find things, my mind instantly thinks “Cmd+F” and I’m always so disappointed with my brain remembers that life does not work like the Mac OS. More’s the pity. Am I the only one who does this? Have you ever done something and then instantly thought “Cmd+Z” because you wanted to undo it, to take it back?

Brace yourself, I’m going to hug you.

Feeling pretty geek right about now. I went out and spent some money on an ethernet router, so that I can fulfill my G4 tower’s destiny as the mp3 server. BAMF! Now robin [that’s the mini’s name] is hooked up to the internet, and the tower is hooked up to her. Everyone has been hooked up. It’s like a giant group hug. And when I bring squishy home, there’s room for her too.

Now I am going to go watch a movie… whatever is in that mysterious red netflix envelope. Who knows!!

To clarify…

the monkee will be moving in July. I only have to make it half way through the summer and then everything will be fine. Sure, I have NIN blasting in my ears and I can still hear him, but only until July. So…. no worries everyone. It will be dealt with.

In other news, I know have a plug-in that allows me to control my iTunes from within Adobe InDesign. How cool is that? And it’s free! I love it when people make stuff like that. It makes me all giddy. If I were a puppy my tail would be wagging.

And, if you are anything like me [and I hope for your sake you are not], you are going to want to go read this interview with Bruce Campbell right away. I hope he tours for his new book “Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way.” I have such pleasant memories of his book reading/signing for “If Chins Could Kill.” And, per the instructions he wrote in my copy of the book, I have been attempting to stay groovy ever since.

Ok then… that’s it.

Bored now. I have been working on the most tedious of all tedious tasks that occasionally fall into my inbox. Little pieces of my soul are drifting up and away, as we speak, and I cannot spare any of MY SOUL, as we all know. And I’ve just about reach the capacity of tedium that a girl like me can take. But all is not lost! For today my Mac Mini has arrived!! Cuter than your average button, she is. But she has no name, a fact that Dr. Stevil finds astounding, since I name all my inanimate objects, especially my computers. And macs are almost always girls. Amelia suggested “Amelia” but that could get confusing.

The other night I had this dream. See if you can guess what I was dreaming about. I was living in a house with my parents [Mom and Stepdad] who were away for the weekend. I decided to take a shower, and when I got out, somebody had gone through the house sticky multi-colored pieces of paper on the walls and doors. These pieces of paper were as small as a mini post-it note and as large as 8.5×11, and they had words printed on them, but most of the words were gibberish. Or they were written like this “st0ck prices go thru the r00f!” I was running down the hallway, tearing these pieces of paper off the walls and doors, when I saw someone dash down the stairs. I looked over the balcony, and there was the culprit! Along with my parents.

Now, for some reason, at this point, everyone became lego people. I yelled “stop him! he’s a note leaver! he’s leaving notes everywhere!”

So my stepdad shot and killed him, and started to drag his lego man body out the door. This seemed like a perfectly reasonable thing to do. When I got downstairs, we’d all turned back into humans. I told my mother I did not understand how he got in, to leave the notes. How they ever get it, because this had happened before. She explained to me that they were very very patient. That they hid out in the storm drain, but the street, waiting for an opportunity to sneak in. In fact, there was one there right now. We went out to look at him. He didn’t look very healthy.

“sometimes, they have viruses.” My mom said.

After that dream, I woke up and went to get a glass of water, while standing in the kitchen, it struck me… what I had just dreamed about. And it made me laugh.

Three things for a Monday

– It’s Loon’s birthday! Happy birthday Loon,

– Saturday was Evildeb’s Evil Birthday! Happy Evilday, Deb! She was in Victoria BC, and I was under quarantine, so I have not celebrated an evil birth ritual with her yet. Any ideas?

– I just ordered my Mac Mini, using the discount given unto my P.O.E. by Apple. Hooray! My home system needed an upgrade. My G4 will become the delegated MP3 server.

– Due to a physical injury, the monkee is rumored to be a bit more subdued and “quiet,” currently. But I don’t notice a difference.

– Also, I just pre-ordered the Sims2 for the Mac. It comes out on June 13th. [birthday of Liloo and my uncle Jim.] So the blog may go, as they say in the theatre world, dark for a bit. Dark, with strong possibilities for sim stories.

– I got a Mother’s Day card in the mail from my cat.

I said three things and that is six… sorry. I’m still not quite myself, truthfully.

Amelia says “hi!”

You’re playing golf and you’re going to like it!

Jeez’m rice but the new 2.3 version of Ecto is gorgeous! I don’t know if any of you bloggers use a third party blogger aps to write your posts, if not, you should check out Ecto. I’m sorry, but when good applications get better, and prettier, I get all warm and mooshy inside. It’s got this beautiful new Amazon button! Something I used to do by hand… oh dear, I’m drooling all over myself. I’m such a geek. I am truly, honestly giddy right now. There is just so much… software beauty coming out right now. Adobe Creative Suite 2, Ecto 2.3, Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger…. I just want to lick Tiger.

Now that you are disgusted and repelled by my übergeekiness, let me tell you my new favorite search string, “What influences do Mexican Foods have on Nova Scotia.” How random is that? Unfortunately, I am sure they did not get the answers they were seeking from me. Now, I must ask that someone stop me from constantly looking at the search strings!! Seriously, it’s becoming compulsive. I have no self control. Someone needs to take me in hand. I mean, good luck in doing that, but still… someone should at least try. I think Amelia is worried about me. Although yesterday we were both cracking up because the monkee was telling a golf story.

“Golf… naturally. I bet he has tiny little golf clubs.”

“Amelia!!”

We have so much in common, we both love soup and snow peas, we love the outdoors, and talking and not talking.

Today was a different kind of day for me. I feel like my emotions have been turned up high the last week. And today was a veritable potpourri of feelings. Most of which I shall keep to myself. But some of them you are going to have to hear about, mes pommes de terre d’Internet. But first, I want to clarify a few things.

  1. That picture up in the corner, of the girl on the computer, is not meant to represent me, in the strictest sense, any more than the swinging girl used to. I edited her to give her more of a me-ness. I gave her my fair swedish/norwegian/irish/scottish skin. I lighted her hair to be more like mine. I changed the colors of her clothes, desk and chair, and I changed her glasses, which were black with blue lenses. My glasses are green. I am not a tall, willowy, vector stick. I could go on the South Beach diet, the Atkins diet and the Zone diet all at once, and I ain’t ever going to be willowy. Or tall. My people are a curvier people. We are not meant to walk the catwalk in strange designer couture. We are meant to lounge on chaise lounges, and have cute boys brings us drinks on silver trays. Also, my boobies are bigger. HA! take that vector stick.
  2. I’d like to thank Evildeb for letting me mess with her identity and portray her in almost any manner I see fit. She is remarkably accepting that way. For someone so evil.
  3. No matter what she says, Fee does actually like me.
  4. Thomas has a wonderful way of taking something you think is a hang up, and making it sound rare and wonderful. Thank goodness for chat logs.

Oh, and Matt from DC is totally in love with me. I discovered that chatting with him last night. it’s not surprising, really. We have some shockingly similar traits. We are both funny, we both like macs and hate pc’s, we both prefer bookstores to smokey bars. But it’s not meant to be. He’s east coast Washington, I’m west coast. He’s got a bird, I’ve got a cat. He’s mountain dew and I’m Dr Pepper. He likes to be active and exercise, I like to take naps. He wants children, and I still behave as tho I were a child myself. Not to mention he is young and studying to be a lawyer and I’m old enough to be his babysitter! It’s probably pretty natural to have a crush on your babysitter. Do little boys grow up thinking fondly of their babysitters? Not me, they didn’t.

“Ok, maggots, it’s time to go to bed.”

“But mommy says that we don’t have to go to bed until the clock on the microwave says eight, three, oh. See, it doesn’t say that. That’s a seven and that’s a five…”

“I know I know! But see, the microwave is messed up. Yeah, I messed it up when I was heating up the pizza. Here, I’ll fix it. See? eight, three, oh.”

“But we don’t want to go to bed yet, we want to stay up and watch movies with you!”

“I know, sweetie, and as much as I’d like to watch Jungle Book for the 4th time tonight, I have to study. Believe me, I don’t want to study. I would rather watch movies with you.”

“What is that you are studying?”

“Errrr… history. I have to read this book tonight and find out if this guy here, he’s Rafe Sterling, the King of the … Pi-RA-tes. Yes, King of the Pirates. I need to find out if he ever wins the battle against this woman here, the cold and icy Princess Melody. Currently a resident of Prudytown on the Virgin Islands. But not for long. Now come on… head upstairs before I break out my Mad Babysitter voice!”

Maybe one day you’ll wise up, sap!

In today’s episode of what is on Jodi’s t-shirt today:

It’s Slimey the Worm! From sesame street! Yay! Today’s t-shirt is an orange on orange ringer, paired with a black cashmere cardigan from the men’s line of Land’s End [treated very poorly indeed], levi’s, and black suede canvas one stars.

Right now, Evildeb [who’s boobies are known as Siegfried and Roy] is trying to do something genius. If she gets it to work, I will have to be her best friend forever. I’m willing to commit to that, because, if she accomplishes what she sets out to do, she’ll be THWARTING THE MAN! The same Man who is always trying to keep you down. In a geeky operating system parity kind of way. I can’t really tell you the specifics, because that’s Place of Employment [PoE] confidential. But, it goes something like this:

The Man: You must use this system. It’s crappy and slow and buggy and complicated and it sucks. It won’t do everything you want or need. But that’s just the way it is. Oh, and it only runs on Windows.

Jodi: Windows? but but…

The Man: YES WINDOWS!! quit crying, mac babies!

several months later, after Evildeb SWITCHED to the Mac as her primary machine…

Evildeb: you know…. there’s no reason we couldn’t run this on a mac. I just need to mumble mumble nameserver mumblle mumble java gui mumble mumble .ini file. I don’t want to have to lug around TWO laptops every time I travel.

Jodi: HOORAY!!

I really hope she figures it out.

I meant to show you this the other day. Oops. Nintendo Crime. It’s pretty brilliant.

Bunch o’ links.

Just want to share with you some of the things I’ve been reading over the last day.

Can I get an amen here? Well… probably not from any of you people. But I feel all warm inside.

Please go read Debra’s letter to the people who write the Canadian Ministry. It’s genius.

I believe this is the first time I’ve ever linked to the newspaper from this particular hometown, out of many, of mine. There is a special, really really boring, place in hell for people like the Olivers, in which demons force them to live by their outrageous beliefs, keep them locked up in dark rooms, never let them read anything good, and keep really interesting secrets from them. Nobody is going to torture them, per se, they are just going to have to live in ignorance and under the laws of someone else’s beliefs. Which are truly horrible and illogical beliefs in which all human beings are seen as dirty and morally corrupt. Oh… wait a minute…. [ It also reminds me to let you know that much progress has been made on Satan’s Bookclub, on which they Oliver’s will have a place of “honor.” I finally settled on a design I like, and am planning to work on it this weekend. ]

I was reading the transcript from the live chat with Rod Nordland, Newsweek’s Baghdad Bureau Chief on MSNBC.com. I found it very interesting, and I shall present to you my five favorite answers to questions. And yes, bonus points were given for wit and sarcasm.

Hellowell, ME: why does Bush care so much about what happens in Iraq when there are so many poor, sick, poverty-stricken people in the U.S.?

Rod Nordland: Who said he cares?

Hartford, CT: If the world were ruled by “Muslim law,” what would it look like???

Rod Nordland: You mean by Islamic law? There are many different versions of that, depending on the society, the culture, the sect of Islam, and it’s a bit unfair to generalize. But I suppose one quick answer is it would be as unattractive as, say, a world ruled by fundamentalist Christian law.

Bucharest, Romania: Hi! Do you really think that democracy is the best thing for Iraq? I mean it’s obviously the best thing for some countries (like the U.S.), but is it the best thing for others? Maybe democracy and voting just doesn’t fit them, just as royalty for example wouldn’t fit U.S. And is that what democracy is all about: who isn’t like us is against us, therefore we should try to impose democracy everywhere (by force!)?

Rod Nordland: We’re going to invade Romania next, so just watch out. Belarus, they really need invasion. Moldavia, Central African Republic. So many dictatorships, so little time!

Harwich, MA: Saddam Hussein has been deposed, no WMD’s have been found, the elections are taking place, and the U.S. military is losing lives, ground, and legitimacy daily.

WHAT/WHEN IS OUR EXIT STRATEGY? Do we even have one?

Rod Nordland: It’s very simple: last one out, please turn on the lights.

AND MY NUMBER ONE FAVORITE QUESTION AND ANSWER FROM THE LIVE CHAT WITH ROD NORDLAND!

London, England: Divide and rule is what the simpleton Americans use to control other weaker nations. What a pathetic, bullying, ruthless, cowardly lot you are!

Rod Nordland: E tu madre.

I think I am going to weep…

oh.. the beauty. it’s too much….i want it so much, my heart is aching. You know, it’s stuff like this that renews your faith in mankind. It’s going to be ok, kids…. I see that now.

God bless you, Steve Jobs.

And so, it’s fairly obvious that….

You are a Geek Girl!

You’re competent, eccentric, and proud to be exactly who you are.
It also helps that you’re the smartest person you know.
Meeting a guy is not a challenge for you, as long as you’re willing to pull away from the computer.
There’s a ton of geek boys who are dying for a girl exactly like you.
