29 Days of Blog – L.A.P.S. BC

Today I started volunteering at the Langley Animal Protection Society.  While I don’t live in Langley,  I became familiar with the shelter during their Kitten Roundup a couple of summers ago. They are a no kill shelter with cats and dogs, and my favorite kitten cam, Tiny Kittens, is associated with them. I am now a Cat Care Volunteer. I feed them. Scoop their litter boxes. Clean their beds and play with them. All things I’m very used to doing.

This kitten is part of the Great Catsby litter. I believe her name is Lindy Hop but I am still trying to learn their names. This room, with the kittens, has a livestream cam, so you can watch them! Lindy Hop, whom you can tell has a lot of floof potential, was the only kitten who could sit still long enough for a photo. I had kittens crawling all over me. Ten, I believe. Let’s see, 4 tabbies, 3 cow kitties, and 3 black. Yup, ten.

29 Days of Blog – Kitten Parents

Under that blanket is Wil. He’s sleeping after working the night shift. The kittens are “helping” him. It’s an amazing picture because they were actually napping along side him, nice and quiet. They woke up when I came in to put away some clean socks.

Wil and I have different animal parenting techniques. Mine is influenced by my uncle Skip, who was a vet. He told me, when I adopted Pru, that I should never feed her immediately after getting up in the morning or she would learn to wake me up when she wanted food. So I used to feed her as I was walking out the door to work. Prudence had plenty of issues, but she was very patient and polite in the morning. I use the same strategy with George and Kirby. Wil does not.

Wil is a big softy. After Momo passed, Pru came out of her shell with him and trained him to give her treats every time he walked in or out the front door. Or when she just gave him a sweet look. He was so thrilled that she finally liked him, he was easily trained.

The boys have taken it one step further. They have trained him to give them treats whenever they annoy him. Kirby will sit on his chest, when he is sleeping and yowl. And he will GET UP AND GIVE THEM BOTH TREATS. To distract them. Do you see the flaw in this technique? They also like to annoy him when he’s playing computer games. They crawl all over the keyboard and sit in front of the monitor. He gets frustrated so he gets up AND GIVES THEM TREATS. He also gives them treats when he walks in and out of the front door. Or they meow sweetly, giving him cute kitten face.

Big softy. Big sleepy softy.

Follicular Update

I cut off even more of my hair last week. There was a great debate going on, in my head about cutting it off vs. growing it out. I even officially asked the question on facebook. Three people replied, 2:1 for keeping it short. (Sorry, Ruth.)

I was going to keep the shaggy type hair-doish thing I had going. But my stylist, O, was feeling very feisty. He basically challenged me to go shorter. He told me I was probably AFRAID to go shorter. He thought I was SCARED.

So now, it’s even shorter. I like it. I love having short hair, it’s so easy! All I do is wet it, put a little bit of paste on my hands (hair paste, not the kind of paste you ate when you were a child) and finger come it. It takes SECONDS. It’s awesome.

With shorter hair, I find myself being a bit more playful with makeup, and wearing earrings again. Which is “fun” and “girly.” Normally I’m only “fun.”

Cookie face picture I sent Wm at work.

I talked to O about growing my hair out, because I do sorta miss long hair and know I will probably want to have it again. Mr Sassypants asserted that I would never make it through the rough stage. Little does he know, I’ve lived YEARS OF MY LIFE in a “rough stage.” If I want long hair again, I’ll have it, by gum!

If for some reason, this is all interesting to you – what I am doing with my hair, I’ve included pictures. Both of which designed not to fully display an honest shot of my current fat face. ( and both previously uploaded to Facebook, sorry for the repeat, FB) If it’s not interesting to you… well, I suppose you would have left a long time ago. I only really talk about myself here.

Geez, why so defensive, Jodi.

Ooops, I did it again.

I’ve often joked that the sole purpose of mobile twittering is to take pictures of what you are eating, and send it out in a tweet. Not long ago I sent this picture I took with my iPhone.

Here comes my only problem with the iPhone so far. I was scrolling through my camera roll last night and there they were, those lovely buffalo wings. I flashed the picture to Wil and remarked how tasty they looked. He agreed, but he might have been referring to the frosty beer in the background. So, because I’m sometimes made up entirely of id, guess what we had for dinner yesterday?

My iPhone makes me hungry. It makes me want things. It won’t take no for an answer.

What’s On Jodi’s T-shirt Today – Familial Request Edition

Several days ago:

Wm: Why haven’t you done one of those “what’s on my tshirt” bloggy things with your new Frank Black tshirt.

Me: Probably because I haven’t worn it yet.

Wm: Well DO IT! Tonight!

But, because “obey” was not in our marriage vows, I took that order with a grain of salt. I planned on wearing it today anyway, but when I got out of the shower and he was cleaning the kitchen, I knew I had to wear it. I walked into the kitchen and pointed to my shirt.

Wm: There you go. Good [pointing towards my desk] DO IT!

Frankblackshirt

Wil is something of a Pixies/Frank Black/Black Francis fanatic. Last fall we went to see his show, which was awesome, but they didn’t have shirts on sale. He found these on Frank Black’s website and I ordered them. Had to have them sent to my mom, and when they did not arrive in time for her last visit, he was extremely disappointed. But my mom is awesome, so she shipped them to us as soon as they got in, proving, once again, he is the luckiest son-in-law EVER.

Frank Black was playing here last night. Only I think he’s going by Black Francis again. It’s hard to keep track. But when I went to get tickets last month, he was sold out. In fact, in keeping with the “paper” theme of the first anniversary present, I was going to get us tickets to Frank Black and he was going to get us tickets to Chris Isaak (one of my favorites). Both were sold out.

I think the iPhone helped with my sadness. I’ll see you next summer, Chris.

What’s On Jodi’s T-shirt Today?

meatismurder

I saw this shirt a long long time ago. I don’t know why I didn’t buy it immediately. Then I forgot where I saw it until, recently, Dooce talked about hers. I saw it on Threadless.com. And now it is finally mine.

If you know me, you know this shirt is perfect for me. I was so excited. I had to have it shipped to the States, so I sent it to my mom’s house. I told her she could open it up when it got there because it was too funny. When she got it, she said to me that it was “funny because it’s your sense of humor.”

Wil: What did she say?

Me: She said it’s funny because it’s my sense of humor.

Wil: She doesn’t like it.

Me: Not as much as I do, no. This is the equivalent to your “That’s interesting.” when I am telling you a story.

She reminded me that my little vegan brother would probably hate it. As would other vegan and vegetarian friends of mine. Yes, I suppose. But they wouldn’t be surprised by it. The fact is, I’m a carnivore.

1. Type your answer to each of the questions below into Flickr Search.

2. Using only the first page of results, pick one image.

3. Copy and paste each of the URLs for the images into Big Huge Lab’s Mosaic Maker to create a mosaic of the picture answers.

The questions:

1. What is your first name?

2. What is your favorite food? right now?

3. What high school did you go to?
